The Big Trends Shaping the U.S. Today

Gallup today launched an ongoing series on "The New American Consumer." This is just one of a range of topics Gallup will focus on more in-depth in the months and years ahead. Gallup is committed to providing ongoing intelligence to U.S. leaders about the “Big Trends” impacting the country today and in the future. Gallup has identified eight major areas of focus -- based on millions of interviews and more than 70 years of expertise -- that are shaping and fundamentally transforming life in America.

Here is what you can expect out of our first Big Trend:

The New American Consumer: The 2008 recession has had a significant -- and lasting -- impact on Americans’ economic mindsets and behaviors. Gallup continuously monitors and analyzes Americans’ attitudes about spending, saving, jobs, and trade -- revealing the consequences for the U.S. economy.

Today, you can read about Americans' views of the housing market -- including how they have changed dramatically since the recession and what it means for the country.

We will unveil the other Big Trends in the near future, so stay tuned.
